How I got there: We took an overnight sleeping train from Cairo to Aswan, and the train was exceptionally clean, private and had really good food for dinner and breakfast. We arrived in Aswan in the morning, were picked up by our tour guide and after checking in, we were taken to the Philae temple.
Total duration: Half a day
Traffic light for children: Green
About the place: Philae temples are situated on an island. You get here by a boat, and the journey to the temple is just amazing. Imagine seeing reclaimed 1000s of years old temples on an island. Nothing on the island other than the temples. The art on the temples! To think that thousands of years ago, man had all the tools, techniques, and the talent to construct something as massive as these temples! Just imagine the views from the temples, you see sandy old ruins with water all around you!! I felt bad when I saw the beautiful treasures that were destroyed during war and conquer, but that’s just life!
After passing through several chambers and flanked by dark side chambers, you come to The Sanctuary, which appears to sort of be lit by windows. The Sanctuary of Isis! Goddess Isis, who protected women and children, goddress of fertility and motherhood. I urge you to go explore Egypt by yourselves and see it with your own eyes how wonderful the experience is. Do not read too much about everything before going to Egypt but let the local tour guides tell you the stories, you will feel like little boys and girls listening to fascinating tales that you will cherish forever. Learning experiences on trips are usually the best experiences. For me knowing about the temples and the ancient gods from the local tour guides was definitely a highlight of the trip.
