Broughton Island - Paradise in NSW

How I got there: Broughton Island is accessible only by boat. We took a cruise from Port Stephens to get there.

Total duration: This is an activity for an entire day. The cruise itself is around 3 hours and you get 3 hours to spend in the island.

Traffic light for children: Yellow

About the place: If there were such a thing as an untouched and raw piece of paradise, this is how it would look like. This is an island with hardly any people in it, as this is only accessible by boat and camping is allowed only for a few people at a time. In all the adventure novels that I read as a child, especially the Enid Blyton ones, there were always stories about children who went to lonely islands to explore by themselves, and had adventures in those islands. This is how Broughton island looks like. So raw, so uninhabited by man, and such an amazing sight to behold. The dark blue patches on the light green patches in the waters makes it look like earth from space!

This is the only island in NSW where you allowed to camp amongst an active sea bird colony. But, there were hardly any campers here. You will see muffin bird holes in the sands and hear the sounds of exotic birds that migrate over here. If you want to go to an island and do some adventure activities like paragliding or kayaking, then this is not the place for you. But if you want to go an island and laze in the beach there or snorkel (With your own equipment), go for the remoteness and tranquility of the place and be mesmerized by mother nature, then this is the place for you. There are 2-3 coves here which are great for snorkeling and an amazing beach which is good for swimming or just playing in the beach. The water felt so pristine, the salt water also felt so pure and crystal clear! It is like a greenish blue lagoon where you can walk and swim for long distances into the ocean. As you take the Nature's walk, you will be in the midst of bluish green waters and beautiful rocks. There are no lifeguards here, so you must be careful, and the cruise takes some time, so carry seasick tablets if you get seasick. The cruise passes by some amazing islands, takes around 1.5 hours each way, and our cruise operator provided an amazing lunch, and some water activities on the boat. It is a nature lover's retreat and a swimmer's paradise.
