Fingal Bay and Fingal Spit - Port Stephens

How I got there: My friends and I drove from Sydney to Port Stephens in August and spent two days here. The drive from Sydney takes around 3.5 hours with short breaks in between.

Total duration: You can easily spend two hours at the Fingal Bay and walk for1 km on the beach, morning to afternoon.

Traffic light for children: Green

About the place: What an incredible piece of landscape! Fingal Spit, the point of intersection between two waterbodies, what a marvel to watch it is! Be very careful and do your research before walking right into the Fingal Spit as the tide can suddenly increase and put you right into a rip, even in the afternoons. Appearances can be deceptive as the water might look easy to pass through, there might even be people trying to pass through it, but the water and rips are immensely powerful and dangerous.

We walked along the beach, could not walk too much across the spit as there was water slowly submerging the spit, but from the beach, the Fingal Island is visible and again, I love that two water bodies just merge into one to form a wonderful piece of landscape. It is such a treat to the eyes, something that is not quite common, you have the calm waters on one side and the roaring ocean on the other. At the beach, you can spend hours and hours just staring at the Fingal Island and the spit and two water bodies trying their best to merge!
