How I got there: We came to Hoi An in a car from Hue, which is in central Vietnam.
Total duration: It took us about 4-5 hours, and we spent 2 days in Hoi An.
Traffic light for children: Green
About the place: When we arrived in Hoi An, we really did not know what to expect and what we were going to be up for. The only thing I had heard about Hoi An was that there are brilliant tailors over here, who stitch clothes in no time. That apart, from the moment we set foot in Hoi An, till we left, we were spell bound. I will safely say that Hoi An was my favourite place in Vietnam. It is called the Lantern City because every single hotel, shop and building is decorated with lanterns! There is also a lantern festival that takes place every month here, but even otherwise, during night, the whole city is lit up with delightful dancing lanterns and the river Thu Bon is also lit up at night which make reflections of lanterns and buildings on it look ethereal. There are boat rides with lanterns that you can go in at night, romantic indeed!
This place has a lot of French architecture, was a major ancient trading port, and you see the yellow buildings everywhere and are immediately hooked. Take a bicycle and meander through the shops and go to nearby villages which have a lot of rice plantations. Every single spot in the Hoi An city both in the morning and at night made for a great photo spot. The coffees are also so much better here. Apart from the traditional Vietnamese coffee, you get a lot of French pressed coffee here. The pubs and bars are also always decorated so well! This place is so charming, you will not feel like leaving this place when it is time to go.
