Mt. Kosciuzko Summit Walk

How I got there: My husband and I drove to Thredbo in the end of January from Sydney and did this walk the next day. The drive from Western Sydney to Thredbo can take around 6-7 hours with short breaks in between. The summit walk is accessible in many ways; however, we took the Kosciuszko Express chairlift at Thredbo which leads you straight to the start of the walk. There are toilets and refreshments at the top and this a board walk.

Total duration: The distance of this walk is between 13-14 kms and it should take you no more than 4-5 hours to complete the walk if you stop at all the lookouts and have lunch at the top.

Traffic light for children: Green

About the place: This is one of the most beautiful and spectacular places to visit in NSW. The sheer display of wild alpine flowers is a delight to the eyes and the massive empty mountains feel surreal. You can see far across the mountains because the vegetation is very dry and there are small lakes/water bodies that are visible throughout the walks. The scenery over here is vastly different to that of Blue Mountains or Southern Highlands, which really leaves you in awe! There are three prominent looks outs on the way leading to the main summit which offer wonderful views.

Rawson's Pass, which you will reach after about 4.5 km of hiking is also a great spot to stop by as it offers spectacular 3D views, makes for a great photography spot, and has Australia's highest toilets. After the Rawson's pass, the path leads right up to the highest mountain peak in Australia. A happy cross off the bucket list!
