How I got there: Nimbin is about one and half hour’s drive from Byron Bay. We drove here from Mullumbimby, which is also another beautiful green town, about half an hour away from Byron Bay, so the total drive was about 2 hours.
Total duration: half a day, including the drive time.
About the place: Nimbin is known as Australia's hippie Haven. It is nestled in green mountains and valleys and is famous for its alternative lifestyle. It is quite a small town, but the drive up here is definitely worth the visit because you get to pass through UNESCO heritage listed rainforests. This town is just about 2 main streets, and you get really cool hippie clothes here and as soon as you get here, you are caught by the captivating hippie vibe that you can see around you. You have many shops where you get goods made of hemp like clothes and jewellery.
You have art and graffiti scattered across the town and will definitely find someone playing Pink Floyd music on the road. We also visited Nimbin Rocks, which are old volcanic rocks, but could not drive up to the top, as the path was very rough. There are many festivals that happen in this town, but we were here in December, when it was pretty quiet. The vegetation here is more on the thick and green side and it just blows my mind that NSW offers so much diversity in its natural wonders! What a road trip!
