Royal Rocks of Royal National Park

Wedding Cake Rock (Not walkable but can view from the fence)

** Photo was taken from the fence

How I got there: I did the Bundeena to Marley Beach walk; this is one of the longest walks that I have done. In Bundeena, you get to park your car, and this is a return track with views of the Wedding Cake Rock. It is a moderate intensity walk, with some remarkable views along the way.

Total duration: 5-6 hours, around 15 km in total, allow an entire day if you want to take breaks in between for lunch and pictures.

About the place: Wedding cake is an iconic, albeit strangely mystifying and enchanting location that we fit into the walk. I had seen so many photos of this rock, I wanted to see with my own eyes what it was all about. It's a white cake like structure with beautiful natural clean lines for slices. Although we cannot go near the rock itself, given that there is a fence around it, it is just as beautiful to visit it from the fence and you can still take amazing photos. The walk itself meanders through accessible trails and board walks and you end up in the Marley Beach. There are several trails and whatever route you take to get to the wedding cake rock; it is definitely worth the visit.

Eagle Rock

How I got there: There are many ways to get to the Eagle Rock, but we took the Wattamolla to Eagle Rock and return path. I went with a few friends on this trail. We got to Wattamolla by car, and then walked to Eagle Rock and returned to the car park.

Total duration: The walk itself is around 10 km return, considering walking to the car park and back and it takes around 4-5 hours. I would say the trail is slightly difficult in some places especially around Curracurang Cove.

Traffic light for children: Red

About the place: Good views come to those who hike? Definitely true for the spots not accessible by cars. This particular trail is a very scenic trail, you get to see the royal-ness of the Royal National Park. Skivvying through the rocks and rock formations from the beautiful Wattamolla Car Park area, this trail will sure make you pant and puff, but you have so many unique viewpoints that it will not matter! The trail itself is accessible and clear cut, but I would say always download the maps from the National Parks website and keep it with you if in case there is no network. The best things about trails in RNP is that they are usually marked. The waterfall is very scenic and from here and you can take the perfect photo from the opposite side to get the eagle rock in a full capture!
