How I got there: The drive from Western Sydney to Thredbo can take around 6-7 hours with short breaks in between.
Total duration: If you are doing hikes in and around Mt. Kosciusko, book an accommodation in Thredbo village. Make sure you book your trips in advance, else you might have to shed out a lot of money! The walks to your places of accommodation if uphill can get quite steep, with about 100+ steps.
Traffic light for children: Green
About the place: This place in summer looks something off of a storybook! The village has many amazing restaurants, it is absolutely amazing to spend 1-2 hours walking in and around the village. As you head down the mountain, you will find the village and if you cross the road, it takes you to the chairlifts that take you atop Mt. Kosciusko, beginning of the hike to the highest peak. Alternatively, you can mountain bike here. The views of the mountains and the way the accommodations are built over the mountains and the lovely snowy river just flowing through will take all your worries away. We saw a lot of wild rabbits near the snowy river and they sure looked cute and cuddly. There are a lot of free overnight parking places a few meters from the village as not all accommodations offer car parks. Make sure you buy your National Park pass in the information center and display it on your vehicle. My favourite restaurant was the T-Bar Restaurant which had amazing pizzas!
